Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine has signed a major contract with the Chinese shipyard Nanjing Jinling for the supply of nine-ship propulsion systems, the company said.
The contract is less than 300 million NOK.
The vessels will be built for the Italian group Grimaldi and will have a length of 238 meters and will be designed to carry 500 trailers (7,800 wheeled units). Delivery will take place from 2019 until the delivery of the last ship of the series in 2021.
The ships are known as "Grimaldi Green 5th Generation" and will become hybrids by combining fossil fuels to run on battery power when ships are in port.
The design of the ship is provided by Knud E. Hansen in Denmark.
