Irish football legend Robbie Keane announced on Wednesday that his content-rich career was over.

The 38-year-old, who has scored more national teams for Ireland with 68 more, now needs to focus on his job as an assistant coach of the national team in his home country.

Mick McCarthy was recently employed as the new head of the Irish national team and Keane got the role of his right hand. The latter replaces his counterpart Roy Keane as assistant.

"Today, after 23 wonderful years, I announce that I am becoming a football player," Keane said in a statement.

He adds that he could never have imagined the direction his life would take in the two decades since he had played for the parent club, Crumlin United.

"It went beyond anything I hoped for as a footballer in Dublin," said Keane.

In total, he scored 126 goals in 349 Premier League matches. 91 of them came to Tottenham. In addition, he has played for Coventry, Leeds and Liverpool.

In total, the veteran rider is posted with 146 international matches.
