On Monday, the ten teams of engineers responsible for designing six of the seven subway stations of the new Fornebuban were defined.

Along with the transfer of flowers and sweets, the jury also drew clear economic conclusions: the six winning teams submitted proposals that went beyond the budget, so that projects needed to be reduced.

Budget not specified in the competition

"Contest participants do not have a budget to manage, so the projects have a seemingly great design, using materials that make it expensive, so we need to look at each of the proposals to adapt to the prerequisites, cost estimates and technical solutions, "said Irene S. Måsøval.

She is Director of Fornebubanen and Judge of the Planning and Design Contest. Måsøval does not want to enter the last cost grid for the six stations. The award will be part of the negotiations that the Fornebuban and the winning team will now start.

However, the judge believes that all proposals could be simplified without compromising the architectural expression.

– Absolutely

The decision is not a big surprise for the winners.

"Oh, no, that's quite normal in our industry," said Gianluca Racana, Zaha Hadid Architects, London.

The architecture office, together with the Norwegian laboratory A-lab, will design both the Fornebuporten and Fornebu stations.

"We have long wanted to work with projects in Norway, and this will be our first." Mobility-related infrastructure is one of the major challenges of the next century, which is why the Fornebuban is incredibly exciting, says Racana.

85 architectural office projects from all over Europe joined Fornebubanen (FOB) before Christmas last year with an international planning and design competition.

Geir Haaversen, CEO of A-Lab, is also not surprised that the stations that will be completed in 2015 are not such a winning project was presented Monday.

"Since competition is about creating a passionate idea and doing something clear and simple, you have to use the tools, and at the same time we know that we need to simplify our work to bring them to fruition." Haaversen.

Must be functional readers

The new plans of the new Fornebuban plan clearly indicate that the new subway system, streets and outdoor spaces will maintain a high quality in aesthetic and architectural design. At the same time, the stations will be adapted to the buildings of the region and to the surrounding landscape. Stations should also have recognizable features, even if their design is different.

"Recessions and resorts are a big part of the identity of the Oslo metro today, so it is important for us to continue this tradition. At the same time, they should be beautiful, functional and in a sober setting, said Lan Marie Nguyen Berg (OMD), the city in charge of the environment and transport.

Here are the winners:

Fornebu Station and Operation Base

"Underground landscape"

architects: Zaha Hadid Architects and A-Lab.

l & # 39; inspiration: How the Norwegian landscape has been shaped by pressures and currents of water, wind and glaciers over millions of years.

Fornebuporten Station (former arena)

"The paradise below"

Architects: Zaha Hadid Architects and A-Lab.

Inspiration: Designated use of light and colors. The sky of the platform has a dynamic lighting that changes with the clock and the position of the towers in real time.

Lysaker Station

"Heart of lysers"

architects: Asplan Viak, the architects Longva and Arup. Project: "Heart of lysers"

l & # 39; inspiration: The architecture of the two circular buildings takes up the materiality of the existing station, new and existing being linked.
