100 passengers on the train

Åge-Christoffer Lundeby, NSB press attaché, was on board the train when the accident occurred. He confirms to VG that there were injuries and three broken lines in the front car. There were about 100 passengers on the train.

– Some people have suffered cuts and need health care. The police are on site, they are also the firefighters and I even talked to the driver, which is good, says Lundeby.

Harry Korslund, press officer at Bane NOR, confirms to VG that there was a collision at a level crossing between Koppang and Atna.

– As a result of the collision, the train set drew with an axle. That means we have a lot of storage work ahead of us, he says Østlendingen.

– The whole car started to shake

"The train is gone and I know that glass has been broken, so at the front of the train," said Mathilde Kongsvold (20), who was traveling from Trondheim to Hamar at the appropriate time.

She says that it was a loud bang and that the whole car started to shake.

"I thought we were going to ask ourselves questions," she added, pointing out that she was shocked but that she was doing well, even though they were not sure of what is happening.

"They are trying to map the situation now," she says.

When VG spoke to her around 3:10 pm, a 20-year-old girl announced that police and ambulances had arrived.

The train involved in the collision was built in the 1980s. It has the type designation BM92 and consists of a set of two diesel powered cars – one with and one without a motor. In total, the two cars weigh 96 tonnes, according to Jernbane.net.

The maximum speed is 140 kilometers at the hour, but most places on the Røros make the trains run a lot more slowly.
