THE HAGUE – After 96 days of uninterrupted worship the Protestant Church of Bethel, in the Dutch city of The Hague concluded a ceremony to protect a family from Armenians deportation, since a law prohibits the entry of police into temples during religious services.
The vigil began on October 26 and ended on Wednesday, the 30th, following the government's decision to keep the Tamrasians in the country. The measure results from an agreement between the parties that form the Allied base, which will also reevaluate the cases of 700 families .
In contrast, the government announced that it wanted to strengthen the laws on the shelter. "We are very grateful for securing the future of hundreds of refugee families in the Netherlands," said church president, Theo Hettema. "For months we have kept hope, and now this hope is taking shape."
In order to continue worship for 96 days, a rotation of faithful and pastors took place in the church. The Tamrazyan family left Armenia in 2010 after receiving death threats for its political activism and has resided in the Netherlands ever since. / Ansa
