The experience is called "Space Cement". It seeks to test how microgravity acts on a compound made from recyclable cement and plastic. The project will be executed in space by a NASA astronaut, and at the end of the expedition, which will last about 30 days, will return to Earth for badysis.
The authors of the project are: four eighth grade students from Dante Alighieri College, an Anchor project student (Cotia) and a ninth student from the Perimetral Municipal School, in the southern area of São Paulo.
This is Brazil's first participation in the program of the National Center for Scientific Education for Earth and Space (NCESSE), an expedition that incorporates Mission XII, Dante's partnership Alighieri with the Garatee Mission. The presentation of the project in the United States is the last stage of Mission XII.
The work of Brazilian youth is the only one representing Brazil among about 10,000 other participants. The group will give a presentation of the experience to NASA agents. The project is expected shortly to visit the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a rocket of the US company SpaceX, which will be released June 29.
Students created a cement with a recyclable plastic blend. The goal is to try to create solid substances in the space. If this material is resistant to gravity, it is possible that 3D printers can reproduce these solids, for example, it would be possible to use the material in the construction of a spatial base using the idea young brazilians.
