In Santa Catarina, one commune in four is infested by the mosquito Aedes aegypti, which transmits diseases such as dengue fever, chikungunya fever and zika virus. To date, eight cases of chikungunya fever have been confirmed in Santa Catarina, three of which have been contracted in the state (two in Cunha Porã and one in São Miguel do Oeste).
