ANS claims new health insurance rules protect consumers

Faced with criticism of the regulation of the application of co-participation and franchising in health plans, the National Agency for Complementary Health (ANS) has published additional information on the new rules that according to her, predictability and clarity.

The new rules become valid in 180 days. Contracts signed before the entry into force of the Regulation are not submitted to it. The resolution ANS published yesterday (28) in Official Journal of the Union updates the rules of application of co-participation and openness in health plans. The standard establishes a maximum percentage of 40% to be charged by the operator for the execution of procedures and determines the monthly and annual limits to be paid by the consumer by co-participation and franchise.

Fearing the indebtedness of people who are contracting plans with these funding mechanisms and reduced health care seeking, organizations like the National Health Council (NSC) and the Brazilian Institute of Consumer Protection (Idec) have criticized the measure, which they deem beneficial to the operators.
