The first six months of 2018 were quite positive for truck sales . Anfavea, which represents car manufacturers, reports that 32,000 vehicles were registered between January and June, an increase of 49.3% compared to the same period in 2017. "This is a figure still far from the record which shows strong and significant growth, "says Antonio Megale, president of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

In June, the result was virtually stable compared to the previous month, with a slight increase of 1.4% in sales and a significant 35.2% compared to a year ago. Truck production slowed in the first half. With 49,500 units, there was an increase of 37.7% over the same period in 2017. In June, 8,600 units were manufactured, or 16.3% more than in May and 27 % more than in May. from there a year ago. Megale points out that the results were affected by the truckers' strike:

"Despite having only lasted a few days at the end of May, the downturn had an impact on confidence in the economy."

Exports in the segment rose 5.1% in the year to 14.3 thousand units. In June, 2.4 thousand domestic trucks were sold in other countries, 39% more than in May, but 11% less than in June of the year last.

The bus segment posted more subdued results, with 5,500 licenses in the first six months of the year, a drop of 7.2%. In contraction of 27.5% in May, the month of June has counted on the negotiation of chbadis 909. Despite the decrease compared to the previous month, the volume is 13.8% higher than that recorded a year ago. Production of the segment manufacturers reached 14.9 thousand units in the accumulated year, an evolution of 49.7%. Much of this volume was for exports, which increased by 15.1% to 4700 chbadis.

Despite the movement of the first half, Anfavea maintained the projections that she had outlined earlier this year. The entity expects the domestic market to end in 2018 with 79.5 thousand heavy vehicles sold, adding trucks and buses, with an expansion of 24.7%. Production, however, tends to reach 15.4 thousand units, with an expansion of 11.3%.

ROAD 2030 WITHOUT ENERGY EFFICIENCY FOR TRUCKS

The long-awaited Road 2030, set of rules for the automotive industry which was announced on Thursday 5 after more than a year Negotiations, does not set goals for energy efficiency for the truck industry. "The 2030 Road will have three five-year cycles – it's a complex subject because there are no very specific rules for heavy vehicles in the world." We'll discuss and think about the implementation of efficiency goals in the second cycle, "says Megale.

The working groups that designed the program came to talk about the energy efficiency of trucks, something that was mainly defended by suppliers in the production chain. Source involved in the negotiation pointed out that there was a resistance from automakers to go ahead to set targets for improved consumption and emissions for trucks.

Although the segment has received no definition in this area, heavy vehicles will be affected by the requirement of new security items, such as light vehicle manufacturers. "We will have a clear timetable for the introduction of security technologies into heavy models," Megale said.
