Pay television services fall in Brazil

The pay-TV service in the country recorded a reduction of 787,513 contracts between the month of May of this month and the same month of 2017. In April alone, there was a decrease of 52,307 contracts compared to the same period of last year.

A total of 17,855,020 television contracts were signed by each country in May of this year

According to the regulatory agency, Among the reasons for the reduction of the pay-TV service is the change of profile of users, who opted for film and series providers via streaming that offer lower cost to customers. Paulo still obtains the highest number of subscription television contracts in service in the country, 37.61% of the total (6.7 million); followed by Rio de Janeiro with 13.56% (2.4 million); and Minas Gerais with 8.74% (1.5 million).

In the last 12 months, Piauí had the highest percentage of growth, the state recorded an increase of 5.09% (+4.3 thousand) in the operating contracts of the TV by subscription; followed by Maranhão with an increase of 3.02% (+5,3 thousand); Tocantins with more than 1.43% (608 contracts); and Pará with another 1.21% (3,794 contracts). All other states had a reduction in the balance of pay television contracts.
