LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – "Man-Ant and Wasp" crushed box office competition in the United States. The sequel to Marvel – starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly – debuted at $ 76 million in 4,206 US theaters.
This release is significantly ahead of the original "Homen-Ant", which debuted at $ 57 million in 2015.
"Ant-Man and Vespa" easily surmounted the others on weekend with the beginner "The First Purge" with 17 million dollars in 3031 theaters.
Meanwhile, "Jurbadic World: Kingdom Threatened" narrowly secured second place for the third consecutive time on "The Incredibles". Blockbusters earned $ 28.6 million and $ 28.3 million, respectively, this weekend.
Overseas, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" raised $ 85 million, bringing the global opening to $ 161 million. In 20 films, Marvel's film universe has made $ 17 billion worldwide. All 20 films started first at the box office.
With a budget of about $ 162 million, "Man-Ant and Wasp" seems to be another victory for Marvel. The studio has had a number of box office successes in 2018, with "Avengers: Infinite War" ambading over $ 2 billion, and "Black Panther" exceeding $ 1.3 billion worldwide.
