The areas of the city where environmental health workers most often encounter mosquito larvae are: Jordan, Água Fria, Beberibe, Várzea, Alto José do Pinho, Nova Descoberta, Joana Bezerra, Jaqueira, Parnamirim, Tamarineira and Alto José Bonifácio.
The survey shows that 80% of the outbreaks were located inside residences, in places such as buckets and water boxes, which promote larval reproduction by facilitating the stagnant water accumulation.
Every day, the city of Recife puts on the streets more than 600 agents, who visit about 18 000 residences and commercial establishments. To Jurandir Almeida, responsible for the environmental health of the city, it is important to receive home-based professionals and to follow the visits.
"The agent is ready to identify epidemics, can give advice and identify, within the house, which places offer risks and solutions," he says.
According to Almeida, people are neglected at this time of year because of the low level of disease of the population. "It is precisely at this time that we have more time to focus on eliminating outbreaks, it is important that people spend 15 minutes of their week to give a general home and eliminate the points of risk, "he says.
Ednilson Joaquim de Castro, inventory badistant, residing in Alto José Bonifácio, in the northern area of Recife, seeks to prevent this.
"I always get the health workers, they look at the whole establishment and when they find something, they let me know if they find any larvae, I help the agent Fortunately, at home, no one has had dengue fever "I take care of it and I let everything clean up, so that there is no place for the mosquito to accumulate, "he says.
