Triathlete Ludimila Barbosa Oliveira, who was hit by a fireboat during a competition, was amputated with her left foot and is in critical condition at the Urp of Palmas General Hospital. The accident occurred Sunday morning (2) at Lake Palmas during the 6th stage of the Tocantins Aquatic Marathon National Circuit.
Ludimila has been competing since late 2017 and is a teacher at the Municipal Center for Early Childhood Education João and Maria, at the Palmas Town Hall.
Firefighters reported that they had started to explode a lot during the race and after halfway through the race, athletes started asking for help. Two were removed from the water and the military rescued a third when they realized that the woman had been hit at the back of the boat.
The firefighters' command deplored what happened and said that "all the procedures necessary for the preservation of life and the elucidation of the facts have been and are being taken".
The navy is deployed and the technical police go to the scene to investigate the boat. The Aquatic Federation of Tocantins stated that the evidence complied with international and national water safety rules and that all legal measures were taken.
