Eletropaulo, the energy distributor of São Paulo, will be renamed Enel Distribuição São Paulo, six months after the acquisition of the company by the Italian national company Enel, Nicola Cotugno, responsible for the operations of the company in the country, announced Monday an event.
With this acquisition, the Italian group, present in more than 30 countries, acquired a majority stake in Eletropaulo, became the largest company in the distribution sector in Brazil, with 17 million customers served – including 7, 2 million Eletropaulo.
In addition, Brazil became the second largest country in the group, behind only Italy.
The change of brand will be done gradually, according to the president of the distributor of São Paulo, Max Xavier Lins.
The visual identity of the employees' uniforms and the company's car fleet, for example, will be changed gradually. In addition, the company will upgrade substations, stores and service channels, including launching a distributor application this week.
This acquisition also more intensively marks the entry of Enel into the São Paulo market.
The company will open an office in that state in the first half of 2019 and plans to expand its activities to other sectors than distribution, such as the free energy market (where the large consumers as industries buy at different prices from residential consumers) and electric vehicle charging.
"The arrival of Enel in São Paulo represents a new set of opportunities, since we are present in the most industrialized state of the country," said Maurizio Bezzeccheri, CEO from Enel America.
Across the country, plans are being made to invest a total of 4 billion euros ($ 17.2 billion) between 2019 and 2021, more than double the amount announced the previous year for the period from 2018 to 2020.
According to Cotugno, the expectations of the government of President-elect Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) are still unclear, but the view of his team on the sector, considered strategic, is not worrying. ]
"Energy is still [um setor] strategic, it is not new.We are accustomed to working intensively with the energy ministers of all governments."
Enel is the only one. one of the main shareholders of the Italian government, which holds 23.6% of the shares of the global holding company.

The investments envisioned by Enel for the coming years do not only include distribution.
Of the 4 billion euros announced (17.2 billion euros), 2.2 billion euros will be allocated to the distribution area and 1.6 billion euros. additional euros (6.7 billion euros) to renewable energy projects.
Finally, 200 million euros (858 million rand) should be spent on new projects under the aegis of Enel X, a company created last year and designed to provide new services in the field of energy, as charging infrastructure of electric cars.
