Windows Lite: Microsoft's new competitor for Chrome OS can be close

[ad_1]

Microsoft has tried several times to compete with Chrome OS with the simplified versions of Windows, but this has never been successful. Now, it seems that the company is on a more radical trajectory with its new test, called "Windows Lite". The name of this new operating system has been detected in the latest Windows 10 SDK, which could indicate that this news would be about to appear.

There are not many details about this new Microsoft operating system possible, but indications of leaks and rumors seem to indicate. for a rather disconnected version of traditional Windows 10. This time, the simplified operating system would be really simplified and not a simple attempt such as Windows RT and Windows 10 S.

Apparently, this new operating system could only run PWA (Progressive Web Apps) and integrated applications. UWP (Universal Windows Platform) format. In this way, Lite would have access to the Microsoft Store and would be focused on apps for education, the big niche that occupied Chrome OS.

The hardware of the first computers with the new operating system would be basic, with Qualcomm ARM chips. or maybe low-power options made by Intel. The people Petri however, believe that this new operating system should be able to work on any chip, as well as on the operating system of Google Chrome.

New Name

Although the name "Windows Lite" is supposed to be used internally by Microsoft to refer to the new project, it seems that it should be marketed under a completely different name. Thus, the operating system might differ from traditional Windows.

That seems quite plausible, since Microsoft would be ready to actually dissect Windows 10 and keep only the basics of this new program. Users could therefore focus on the applications themselves and not on the system settings. Microsoft's recent efforts with Edge could be a clue to this, since it would be the first and only browser platform out there.

Looks like Windows Lite is somehow related to a FBL called WebShell ??

This can however be a problem since the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 still has few applications in its catalog compared to what is proposed in Play. Google Store and the Chrome Web Store. On the other hand, this new approach may interest the developers of the Microsoft platform and may trigger the emergence of new applications in the store.

There is still no concrete prediction of a possible version of Windows Lite, but Build 2019 is already a good bet. Microsoft has not yet set a date for this event, but this usually happens during the second half of each year. Then stay connected to TecMundo to learn more. [ad_2]
