After two consecutive quarterly declines, the agri-food sector's labor force grew 1.78% in the third quarter of 2018 compared to the previous three months, according to a study by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA). When badyzing changes in the number of registered workers among the agri-food segments, (between the second and third quarters), there has been a growth in activities carried out in the primary sector, or "within the bridge" (3.12%), agro- services (1.25%) and inputs (0.36%). This resulted in a slight decrease of 0.21% in the number of people employed in the agri-food industry.
With regard to branches, Cepea researchers indicate that agriculture and livestock have contributed to the increase in the number of employed persons working in the primary sector and, consequently, in the agri-food industry as a whole.
More specifically, coffee, sugar cane, orange, forest production and soybean crops were the most important determinants of the positive performance of the primary sector. while cereals and grapes have limited performance. Already in the livestock sector, all activities badyzed have cooperated for the growth of the occupied population in the segment, with a focus on cattle breeding.
