Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro denounced Sunday (9) that the United States had initiated a plan to overthrow him with the support of Colombia.

"Today is ongoing and coordinated directly from the White House, an attempt to disrupt Venezuela's democratic life" by "a coup d'etat", said Maduro after voting in the elections of the municipal council.

The Socialist leader, who had once denounced Washington's supposed plans to overthrow him, announced that he will hold a press conference in the coming days to give details of the so-called plot, behind which he also stated that Colombia was present.

"I do not know if the New York Times and the Washington Post will call me to get the hole – because they have very accurate data," Maduro added.

The President referred to a report published in September by the New York Times about meetings between US authorities and the Venezuelan army as part of an aborted plan to overthrow him, a topic that , according to Caracas, allegedly provided "rough evidence" of conspiracy activities of Donald Trump 's administration.

Maduro is ready to begin a second term (2019-2025) on Jan. 10, after being reelected in a vote that has not been recognized by the United States, the United States. European Union and several countries of Latin America.
