With the announcement of The Outer Worlds in the 2018 Game Game Awards, the new game from Obsidian Entertainment, the question has been raised as to why the title will be multiplatform and non-exclusive, given that, recently, Microsoft has announced the purchase of the studio.

In an interview with Polygon, Leonard Boyarsky, co-director of The Outer Worlds, said, "Microsoft came and saw a lot of things we were doing, and this game is part of it with the private division."
