Google announced the end of Google+ for April 2019, according to a statement posted on the company's blog published Monday (10). This measure comes after the second data leak on the social network, which affected 52.5 million accounts and exposed personal information such as name, email, age and occupation – as for non-public profiles. The end of the tool's activities had been announced for August 2019, when the first case of violation of users' private content was made public.
According to the company, the source of the failure is similar to that of the previous case: a bug in the application program interfaces (API) allowed applications connected to the service to access restricted data . Google said the investigations are still ongoing and that those concerned will receive a warning about the incident as of today. The bug would have been discovered in a routine procedure and the company states that "there is no evidence to suggest misuse of the data to which the application developers accessed improperly for six days" .
