It is never an exaggeration to say that the end of Cuban cooperation was due to all the threats made by the future President Bolsonaro. With the departure of the Cubans, the government has announced an extraordinary public notice to fill vacancies across the country. But unlike other edicts, especially those still in the Dilma regime, the current government did not care to establish criteria for selection or protection for municipalities. The result is that there was a real search for vacancies on the part of the doctors, but without criteria preventing the creation of a vacuum in the care.
The best example to explain what I am talking about is what happened in Petrolina-PE and Juazeiro-BA, towns nearby and separated only by the São Francisco River. Until now, both cities had four Cuban professionals. With the new edict, the 4 vacancies were filled by doctors from Brazil. However, because of the same announcement, 15 other doctors left the two municipalities. And there is the big joke: in total, they will disclose, in the case in question, that 19 new vacancies have been filled. But it will be only a big disappointment. As one friend said, we are going to end up with the same doctors. In some cases, like ours, with fewer doctors.
I want to make it clear that not all critics are targeting doctors and doctors who are looking for what they think is best for their lives. There are still a few days left and I sincerely hope that the maximum number of seats will be filled. But I also hope that they do not insist to fool us. They will need much more than bravado and pointed fingers to face the problems of our population.
