Gabriel Medina defeated Hawaiian Seth Moniz and qualified for the fourth round of Pipeline (Hawaii) in the final leg of the World Surfing Tour (WCT). He "dried up" his rival Julian Wilson to be defending champion on Sunday (16), but saw the Australian win and stay alive in the title race .
Medina still controls his fate and will be the champion when he reaches the final, regardless of Julian's result.
In the heat of this Sunday, Medina started with a beautiful tube, but fell out of it and received the 3.00 rating. The Hawaiian answered and took the lead with a tube giving a yield of 6.33.
The Brazilian reacted by missing just over 10 minutes and came back after receiving 7.70. Moniz stayed in contention with another good tube (5.50), but Medina did even better and got a new turn with 6.60 and won: 14.30 against 11.83 from Hawaiian. ] @ gabriel1medina wins his round 3 against @sethmoniz and retains control of the world title race! #BillabongPipeMasters
