Minas Gerais recorded nearly 28,000 probable cases of dengue fever in 2018, according to the latest Public Health Department bulletin released Monday (17). The number of deaths in the state by the disease reaches 8 this year, 11 less than that recorded in 2017.
The deaths were recorded in the municipalities of Araújos, Arcos , Conceição do Pará, Moema and Lagoa da Prata, in the center-west of the country. ; Contagem, in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte; Ituiutaba, in Upper Paranaíba, and Uberaba, in Triângulo Mineiro. Twelve other deaths are currently under investigation.
Still according to the data, about 41% of the municipalities of Minas Gerais are threatened with epidemic or warning, accounting for 348 of the 853 cities in the state. Unaí, in the north-west of Minas, is the city with the highest number of cases, with 248.
There was a significant increase between September and November of this year, 650 being the number recorded on first month and 2,012 last. According to the State Department of Health, there is historically more cases of dengue fever in the warmer months and with more rainfall.
During the first 17 days of this month, 768 cases of the disease were reported in the state. Last year, there were 25,933 records in Minas, including 889 during the month of December.
