Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel announced Tuesday (18) his resignation after opposition forces presented a motion of confidence to test the power of his government.

Officially, the Flemish nationalists announced their departure. the government because of Michel's support for the "Global Compact for a safe, orderly and regular migration of the United Nations", signed on December 10 in Marrakech, Morocco.
The decision of the N-VA was considered by the Belgian press as an electoral tactic to attract conservative voters in the federal elections, scheduled for May 2019.
Even before his departure from power, the Flemish nationalists used already social networks of the party to spread alarmist mountains against immigration. The Global Compact does not only concern Belgium. but the United States refused to participate in the talks, but after 18 months they refused to participate in the discussions. Nearly three dozen nations refused to sign, including Poland, Hungary and Austria.
