A supermarket in João Pessoa has been evaluated by the Municipal Secretariat for Consumer Protection and Protection (Procon-JP) for privatizing the public parking of the building, according to information provided by the agency on Wednesday ( 19).
G1 contacted the press office of the company responsible for the establishment, but at 19:15 local time on Wednesday (19) did not receive any reply.
According to Procon-JP, access to the Bompreço car park, which has a low sidewalk, was controlled by cones and by three security officers tasked with a front and side "entrance".
The Secretariat informed that the purpose of the inspection was to respond to denunciations published in social networks and that the establishment would respond to an administrative procedure with a period of 10 days to submit its defense.
According to Procon-JP, the irregularity observed in the supermarket parking is provided in the code of consumer protection and constitutes an abusive practice.
Procon-JP stated that federal and municipal laws stipulate that parking lots with lowered sidewalks must not interfere with free access to the site, such as chains, cones and grilles. Pharmacies, medical clinics and hospitals are exceptions, because of the type of care they offer, which can be an emergency.
