At least seven people were killed Saturday in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, in two car bomb attacks near the presidential palace, according to Islamists Al Shabab group.
"We confirmed the deaths of seven people in two explosions, and ten others were injured," Ibrahim Mohamed, the local police chief, told AFP.
The first explosion took place in a control barrier next to the National Theater, 500 meters from the Presidential Palace. The second, more powerful, took place at a nearby crossing a few minutes later.
Al-Shabaab al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab expelled from the capital in 2011 but still in control of large rural areas where they organize guerrilla operations and suicide bombings.
The group aims to overthrow the Somali federal government, backed by the international community and the 20,000 soldiers of the African Union mission in Somalia (Amisom).
