In fact, the bright swirls photographed by the telescope are the result of a dust illuminated by RS Puppis, the big star at the center of the image both larger and ten times more mbadive than the sun.

The RS Puppis, located 6,500 light-years away from our planet, shines and darkens at the rhythm of six-week cycles. It's one of the brightest among the so-called "Cepheid variable stars". Its average brightness is 15,000 times higher than that of the Sun.
