Netflix confirmed Friday 28 years that it no longer offers signatures in its iPhone application. Now, new users and people who want to become streaming media customers will need to access the company's website in Safari or another browser to rent a package. Although it has not made any official comment, it is possible that Netflix has taken the step to escape the 30% share taken by Apple in purchases via iTunes.
According to The Verge's publication, the streaming service stated that it will only affect new consumers or those who return to the platform. This is to say that anyone who has already signed a package using payment via iTunes could continue as well, for the moment.
The streaming giant's measure follows other companies, such as Spotify, which are trying to get rid of the part taken by Apple when selling within applications. Currently, the iPhone manufacturer receives 30% of the value of subscriptions subscribed through iTunes, the rest being transferred to the developer of the program. After several complaints, the company announced in 2016 that it would charge 15% of the value from the second year of subscription, but the measure does not seem to have had much effect.
Besides Apple, Google is also strongly criticized for its adoption. a similar measurement in the Play Store. Netflix has also not offered a subscription to the Android store for some time. Recently, Epic Games caused a big surprise by launching Fortnite independently to escape the shares of the research giant.
