Family members also said Marcelino would wear Flamengo clothes and carry a flag of Centro Sportivo Alagoano (CSA). Marcelino is the son of journalist João Vicente Freitas Neto – who was also a lawyer, judge and advisor to Maceió. Father Vicente and Marcelino's mother, Maria das Graças de Carvalho Freitas, died in a plane crash in Cuba twenty years ago.
