Israeli paramilitary police on Thursday expelled dozens of Jewish settlers from the illegal settlement of Amona in the occupied West Bank (3). There was resistance and 23 officers were wounded.

In December, settlers had installed prefabricated houses in Amona, which they described as a protest against a recent attack by Palestinians in the West Bank.

Security forces were operated after the Jerusalem District Court rejected Wednesday a request from settlers trying to keep it.

Police said that during the operation, which lasted several hours, at least 23 policemen were injured by stones thrown by settlers – many of them teenagers – or during clashes. They were hospitalized.

Israeli media claim that at least three settlers were also injured. At least seven people were arrested for badaulting officers, the police said. Most countries consider all these activities illegal. Israeli settlements on land occupied during the 1967 Six Day War. Israel questions this idea and last week, the country's authorities issued permits for more than 2,000 settler houses in the West Bank.

About 500,000 Israelis live in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which were also captured by Israel in the 1967 conflict. Both areas are home to more than 2.6 million Palestinians.

Although Israeli settlement projects are frequently the target of criticism from Palestinians and Europe, the administration of US President Donald Trump has not publicly repudiated them.
