New York City has the lowest homicide rate in 70 years in 2018 | World

The number of murders has decreased by almost 45% in the last ten years. In 1990, the year that ended with a record number, the city recorded 2,245 homicides.

In 2018, after an 8% increase in the number of homicides in the first half of the year, New York managed to finish the year with a record, and in October experienced its first weekend in 25 years.

At a press conference held on Thursday, Mayor Bill de Blasio praised the work of the police force and found that the satisfactory figures were partly the result of the new community policing strategy adopted in 2015.
