A Petrobras platform dumped oil on the Rio coast Wednesday afternoon (2), reported Ibama (Institute for Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) and Petrobras on Thursday. According to initial estimates, 1,400 liters would have sunk.

The environmental agency claims that the accident was reported around 16 hours. After flying over, the institute calculated an area 31 km long. According to Petrobras, oil has sank through a hole in one of the tanks of the platform, but has already been contained.

The company indicates that three ships are working in the dispersion of the spot. The platform is in the Espadarte field, 130 kilometers north of Macaé, a city in the north of the state that bases its operations on the north coast of Rio. The unit stopped five months ago.

The platform is operated by Modec, a Japanese company specializing in the construction and operation of oil rigs. "The emergency plan was immediately adopted by both companies," says Petrobras in a note.

Wednesday's leak is less than that on December 8, when 60,000 liters of oil had sank in Guanabara Bay. following an oil theft in a Transpetro pipeline at Magé, in the Baixada Fluminense.

The accident occurred on Wednesday (2) the day before the inauguration of Petrobras' new president, Roberto Castello Branco. At a ceremony at the company's headquarters, the new Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, said that Jair Bolsonaro's government would not interfere in fuel price policy from Petrobras.

Castello Branco and Albuquerque both argued for increased competition in the refining and distribution segments to ensure lower prices for consumers.
