Tocantins recorded a record soybean crop in 2018 and the result, along with state exports, closed the year at 1 199 billion US dollars. This is the best result ever recorded and also the first time in history that the index reaches billions of dollars in US currency. Last year, the indicator had reached 955 US dollars. The estimate comes from the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade.

The survey shows that the economy of Tocantins is still dominated by soybeans. Grain accounts for 83% of all that is sold outside of the state. It is followed by far by the beef, which corresponds to 9.7%.

Corn, which recorded the most negative result, was the one that fell by 73% in one year with just over $ 14 million in sales during the period.

On import, Tocantins continues to buy higher value-added products, such as fuels, manofaturados and chemicals.

Note also the consolidation of China as the main trading partner of the state. For years, the Asian nation has been the leader among the countries that buy products from Tocantins, but in 2018 it also took the lead in sales sales by state-owned companies, surpbading the US United.

Despite the good results, the figures still represent little in the national scenario. In 2018, Tocantins ranked 17th in the Brazilian states' export rankings, accounting for 0.5% of all that Brazil sells abroad.
