"We have to build the wall," Trump told reporters, coming out of the White House at Camp David, admitting that the wall could be "steel rather than concrete."
"It's a security issue, it's about the security of our country.We have no other choice," he said.
Lack of agreement with legislators on the inclusion of funds to finance the wall in the federal budget keeps the US government partially paralyzed since December 22.
Talks to end what is called "the stop" should continue on Sunday. Yesterday's talks between Vice President Mike Pence and two congressional Democratic leaders, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, have made little progress.
The Democrats, who now control the House of Representatives, do not seem willing to compromise the president on a wall that Pelosi has described as "immorality".
