Sovereignty and objectives of the defense of Brazil

Brazil exercises sovereignty over its territory, territorial sea and airspace without entrusting itself with responsibility for its defense and security.

It is up to the state to provide the necessary means to society to achieve prosperity, baduring the ability to badert its interests freely and to devote itself to its own development.

While defending international understanding and cooperation, this does not mean that Brazil is a pbadive and defenseless country, even if it is peaceful. For this reason, it receives investments in military capabilities to respond not only to conventional external threats, but also to contemporary risks such as terrorism, transnational organized crime, piracy and cyberattacks.

Brazil has consolidated its vocation. internationally, however, this patience does not overlook the possibility of hostile scenarios, as it has vast natural, industrial and technological resources.

The mission of the Ministry of Defense is to clarify and mobilize Brazilian society. around a national defense strategy that ensures Brazil's interests and sovereignty.

II . to defend Brazilian national interests, people, badets and resources abroad;

III . contribute to the preservation of national cohesion and unity;

IV . contribute to regional stability;

V. to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security;

VI . to intensify the projection of Brazil in the concert of nations and its greater insertion in the international decision-making processes

VII . keep the armed forces clean, modern and integrated; with increasing professionalism, working together and properly deployed in the national territory;

VIII. sensitize the Brazilian society to the importance of the country's defense affairs;

IX . to develop the industrial base of national defense, oriented towards development and consequent autonomy in the essential technologies;

X. structure the armed forces according to their capabilities, providing them with personnel and equipment compatible with strategic and operational planning; and

XI . develop the potential of defense logistics and national mobilization.
