The product will be sent preferentially to pregnant women and vulnerable populations. The Department of Health has set priorities for the distribution of repellents this summer, when cases of diseases transmitted by the Aedes Aegypt mosquito (dengue, chikungunya) are increasing.
The products were transferred by the federal government for the State of Rio to send to the municipalities. Pregnant women accompanied by the public health system are among the main priority groups to receive the product, because the Zika virus can cause serious damage to the fetus.
Other residents of Rio de Janeiro in situations of social, epidemiological or environmental vulnerability will also prefer to receive repellents as people living in an area at risk of yellow fever transmission and contraindicated in vaccine; residents and community health workers in areas of high mosquito incidence; and areas of the state already listed with many cases of diseases caused by arboviruses.
