The dictator Nicolás Maduro threatened to take diplomatic measures against the Lima group countries, including Brazil, although they did not go back on their decision not to recognize the new mandate of the Venezuelan.
The 48-hour ultimatum was given at a press conference Wednesday, the day before he took office, to begin the new six-year term.
"Today, a protest note has been delivered to all the governments of the Lima cartels, demanding a rectification of their position on Venezuela within 48 hours, or the Venezuelan government will take the most diplomatic measures. urgent, "he told Caracas, using a pejorative term to refer to the group.
The Venezuelan did not specify the actions he will take against the countries, but his ability to respond is quite limited because he has already broken off diplomatic relations with most members of the Lima group.
The dictator declared that he considered the block's position as unacceptable, announced last Friday at a meeting in the Peruvian capital that he would not recognize Maduro's new tenure and he had asked to transfer his powers to the National Assembly, majority of opposition.
The measure was accepted by the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Saint Lucia. Only Mexico did not vote in favor of the measure, which was still supported by the United States, which is not part of the Lima group.
The election, which was held in May of last year, was largely boycotted by the opposition, which denounced a series of frauds.
However, Maduro insists that the elections were fair and that the opposition did not participate because he knew he was going to lose. He accuses foreign governments, including neighbors and the United States, of trying to overthrow him.
