Air France airline announced Thursday (10) that it would close its low-cost travel company Joon. The new brand of the group, which counted Brazil among its links, did not conquer the expected customer one year after its inauguration.
Joon was presented as a hybrid venture between low-cost business and traditional business, which began operations in December 2017 with four destinations in Europe. The idea was to recover the air traffic lost by Air France in recent years in favor of low-cost competitors such as Easyjet and Ryanair.
Its activity began this year outside the European continent with two weekly flights to Fortaleza, Brazil. The company had promised tariffs for the capital of Ceará from 249 euros (about R $ 929). Ambitious, the idealizers planned to fly to Seychelles in 2019.
But the optimism hardly lasted more than a year. "The multiplicity of brands has left the scene very complex and has unfortunately weakened the power of the Air France brand."
Joon employs 600 flight attendants who earn on average 40% less than Air France. . According to the company, the employees will be absorbed by the parent company, but management has not yet given details on the terms of the transfer, which should begin in April. It is also difficult to know if all connections to Joon will now be operated by Air France or will be removed.
"From the outset, customers, employees, markets and investors have not quite understood [o conceito] brand," said Thursday the Air France management.
