In trouble for having covered the skin with about 500 ticks, a snake, belonging to a kind of python carpet, went into a pool to try to get rid of arthropods. The reptile was saved alive by hunters, taken to a veterinary clinic and, after removing the ticks, it pbades well. The case, occurring in the Australian Queensland region, was revealed by the BBC on Friday (11).
The snake hunter, Tony Harrison, reported that the face of the animal was swollen and that "the snake was completely knocked out by ticks stuck in it."
According to the professor of the University of Queensland, Bryan Fry, snakes are sometimes attacked by other parasites. However, the large number of ticks attached to the reptile indicates that he was sick, possibly because of the high heat.
"It is clear that it is a critically ill animal that its natural defenses are also slaughtered, has been removed and treated," he told BBC News.
The snake calls Nike and has contracted an infection, but nevertheless pbades through.
