Known as the "Presidents Photographer," Gervásio Baptista won an exhibition in the Federal District in honor of his trajectory for more than half a century. The artist is remembered at the age of 96 for eternalizing Juscelino Kubitschek's nod at the inauguration of Brasilia.
The show brings together the main images produced by the retired photojournalist, who owns the Plbadto Palace's title number 001. The exhibition is presented at the Galeria Olho de Águia, in Taguatinga, until the 30th of January. The entrance is free.
/] Born in Salvador (BA), Baptista has an expressive curriculum. He attended seven World Cups, sixteen Miss Universe competitions, witnessed the Cuban Revolution, the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, the fall of former Argentine President Juan Domingo Perón and the Vietnam War.
In the 1950s, the photographer records the construction of the country's capital and snaps the moments of the Brazilian military dictatorship. "Gervásio is a living legend," says Ivaldo Cavalcante, curator of the exhibition.
