The procession of Aguas de Oxalá returned to the Bonfim Church in Olinda, after six years of washing on the steps of the cathedral church, in the historic site of the Upper City. The religious temple was reopened in 2018 after six years of closure. At the ceremony, mothers, fathers and sons of St. Francis asked for the peace and protection of the Carnival of 2019.
The procession, which resulted in a mob, left the Bonfim Church and marched through the streets of the historic site for a 1.5 km trail. which includes Rua and Largo do Amparo, Largo de Guadalupe and Vila Popular.

"We started here and we were only in Sé because the church was in repair, ask Oxalá to be happy so that the coming year will allow us to achieve everything what we want in life, "he says.

According to Sílvio Botelho, one of the organizers of Á d'Oxala, the event represents the opening of the year and a celebration of peace .
For him, the washing of the staircase also testifies to the respect of the African Matrix religions and the Catholic Church, since this year the church kept the door open for celebration and that the bells were reproduced when Father Raminho published the doves representing the five continents.
