If you were playing Red Dead Redemption 2, you certainly heard the name "Pinkerton", which was referring to its agents who, in the 19th and 20th centuries, played a major role in taming the old West
It turns out that the Pinkerton Detective Agency still exists today. According to The Verge, Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations is now a subsidiary of Securitas AB and is not thrilled that Rocktar Games used its name in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Pinkerton filed a lawsuit in December , forcing Take-Two to pay them a reward for the unauthorized use of the name or, possibly, royalties for each unit sold.
In response, Take-Two launched another process in which he uses the First Amendment of the United States to protect himself. The argument of Take-Two that I use the name Pinkerton in the historical context of Red Dead Redemption 2, giving as an example of other Old West fiction works that have refers to the Pinkerton
Take-Two says in the process that "Pinkerton is not allowed to use trademark law to become the owner of the past." Pinkerton is not allowed to use the law of the brands in the past.
