The Constantinople, a big fork planned for Wednesday (16) on the Ethereum (ETH) has been postponed after the discovery of a critical vulnerability.

Earlier, the security intelligence company ChainSecurity had contracted a chain that had a flaw in one of the proposed improvements included in the range allowing malicious actors to easily steal funds .

Called re-entry attack, this vulnerability essentially allows an attacker to "return" several times in the same function without the user being informed of the state of affairs. In this scenario, an attacker could essentially "withdraw funds forever," said Joanes Espanol, CTO of the Amberdata block badyst at CoinDesk.

He explained:

"Imagine that my contract has a function that links to another contract … If I am a hacker and I can activate the function while the previous function is still in progress it may be possible to withdraw funds. "

The developers met during a call and as developers of customers and other projects that operate the network have accepted to delay the range while evaluating the problem.

As time was running out, they chose to delay and avoid compromising user funds.

According to the official Ethereum blog, if you are a regular user, you do not have to worry or take any action. You will not be affected.

Following the release of this news, the market reacted negatively and the ETH fell by 6.5% in a few minutes. At the time of writing, criptomoeda is trading at US $ 120.
