PrEP: Brasilia University Hospital inaugurates external HIV prevention clinic | Federal District

With this new service, the UnB hospital becomes the second public health unit in the federal district to offer pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Until then, the service was only offered by the day hospital, at 508 South.

On site, medical infectologists, nurses, pharmacists and psychologists will follow up patients. In PrEP mode, the user should take one tablet daily to avoid any infection in case of exposure to the HIV virus.

Unlike a vaccine, the use of the drug does not confer on the person taking the drug the immunity against HIV. This drug, distributed free of charge, is intended for those who are not infected with HIV but who are constantly feeling risk. According to the Ministry of Health, the most vulnerable groups are men who have bad with men, bad workers, transgender people and people who have bad with HIV-positive people.
