The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), said Friday (18) that he will privatize new prisons built in the state on the model of public-private partnerships (PPPs).
According to management, private initiative will be managed by the administration of four of the twelve new penitentiaries under construction, in notices that are expected to be released later this year. Three other planned penitentiary complexes should also be included in the model. Units to be privatized have not been informed.
According to Doria, the PPP model to be adopted is based on the prison of the city of Ribeirão das Neves, in Minas Gerais, as well as the North American system. A secretary trip is planned for both Minas and the United States for format badessment meetings.
"We will base the management on quality criteria, improve the living conditions of people in distress, offering an internal industrial park capable of resocializar mourning with work," said the secretary of the company. Penitentiary Administration, Colonel Nivaldo Restivo.

"We currently have 12 prisons in São Paulo that work with 230,000 prisoners.This system is maintained as such and its improvements will be complementary work, of which eight already have officials who have been hired by the government. "The four who still do not have any employees and any other new prison decision are that they will be via PPP," added the secretary.
The governor also announced that from now on, all state taxes could be paid by credit card.
"The goal is to simplify people's lives, improve functionality, to reduce bureaucracy and ensure tax collection. This applies to ICMS, IPVA and other taxes, "said Doria.
