More than 9,300 people were affected by rain in part of Rio Grande do Sul, according to a report released late Saturday afternoon (19) by the Civil Defense. Three deaths were recorded, two in Alegrete, in the western border, and one in Santana da Boa Vista, in the central region.
About 7,500 people had to leave their homes. About 5,800 people are homeless – housed with friends or relatives – and 1,600 homeless – were sent to places provided by the government. Nearly 1,900 others suffered minor damage at home.
There are 24 affected cities, seven of which have been the subject of an emergency decree approved by the Civil Defense: Alegrete, Pedrito, Quaraí, Rosario, São Francisco de Assis, São Gabriel and Uruguaiana.
Civil Defense announced that it would send the third package of humanitarian aid to Alegrete and Rosário do Sul, on the western border. Affected villagers will receive 80 baskets, 40 mattresses, 5,000 clothes, 1,000 pairs of shoes, 200 hygiene and cleaning items, and 200 bed, table and bath items.
In Rio Grande, in the south of the state, bad weather resulted in the cancellation of the fish festival. The storm that hit the city on Friday night (18) destroyed the structure of the event. Gusts of wind reached 106 km / h.
In Pelotas, trees fell and the streets were flooded. The rain that fell between Friday and Saturday is equivalent to the historical average of the whole month of January in the city.
