Brazilians of all states will be able to witness, at dawn on Monday (21), the only total lunar eclipse this year. The phenomenon, also called the blood moon, will only happen again on May 16, 2022, according to researcher at the National Observatory, Josina Nascimento.

The phenomenon occurs when the moon is in phase and enters the shadow of the earth. This time, it will happen with SuperLua, which is when the satellite is closest to Earth.

According to the National Observatory, the eclipse comprises three phases. The first is the penumbra phase, imperceptible to the naked eye, when the moon begins to penetrate into the shadow of the earth and become less bright.

The second phase is the partial eclipse, when the moon begins to darken when entering the room. shadow of the earth. This phase starts at 1:34 am on Monday. The last phase is the total eclipse, which starts at 2:41 pm and lasts one hour and two minutes when the moon turns red.

"That's because, even if it does not receive any light from the sun, people from the sun's rays still cross the earth's atmosphere, and then, as in the twilight, you have the red color, less scattered, and it takes on that red hue. "

According to the researcher, bad weather is the only factor that can hinder the visualization of the eclipse. If the sky is completely cloudy, for example, it will not be possible to see the phenomenon.

"I hope it will not rain, but as the eclipse will last an hour and two minutes, which is a very good time, it may be a bit cloudy at first, but we try to see why, if the clouds are sparse, you will be able to see later, with an hour and two minutes you can wait a bit.
