SÃO PAULO – Amazon launches Tuesday (22) a series of novelties on the Brazilian market. From now on, 11 categories of products will be sold and delivered by the company (in the model called 1P or direct sale), including 4 not published in the country: Toys, Babies, Beauty and Personal Care. Since last year, this expansion was expected in the Brazilian market, but the company says that the moment of launching has no connection with the economic situation of the country, but only with the maturity of the country. business.
To date, the only category in which the company worked on the model "sold and delivered by Amazon" in Brazil was that of books. The expansion places the retailer at another level in the domestic market and may be considered a threat to consolidated brands such as B2W (whose stock dropped to 3.26% in the second, with Rumors about the novelty) and Magazine With this launch, the company now offers more than 120,000 products in addition to books, including 200,000 in the direct sales catalog. . An additional 20 million items are sold by market partners (the 3P, where the company provides online space to small and medium retailers.)
According to Daniel Mazini, director of sales at retail in the country, the categories selected to debut in Brazil represent 70% of sales in other markets where Amazon is established. The sales potential was precisely a decisive factor in the selection of articles, but always in the sense of what makes sense at the national level.
Purchases on the Amazon Web site throughout Brazil will have zero freight above R $ 149 and fast delivery (paid). Unlike most retailers, the company will indicate a delivery date rather than the closing date of the basket.
The director makes sure that the competition between the articles sold directly and those of the market is honest: The platform will always indicate first the least expensive (by adding the value of the product and the freight), that it is sold by Amazon or by partners. To the question, he claims to believe that small retailers who use 3P should love the news, just like books. "It generates traffic, increases the catalog, brings more flow," he says.
Distribution Center
"Whenever we go to a new country, we face several new challenges," said Mazini. In Brazil, the offer of payment vouchers and payment by installments are among the elements already treated. Another of them, the logistics, is starting to sound well now.
In order to organize sales and deliveries in the direct selling sector, Amazon has invested in its own 47,000 square meter distribution center (CD), equivalent to 10 football fields, located in the city of Cajamar, in Greater São Paulo. The city is strategic to allow easy access to the largest consumer market in the country. No wonder, it contains CDs from other retailers, like Assaí, Fast Shop, Marabraz, Zara and Natura. Delivery continues, however, on behalf of partners such as Loggi and Swiss Post.
The plant uses all the company's technology, recognized worldwide, to optimize packaging and deliveries. Mazini explains that the organization of shelves does not respect categories or other current disposal systems. Goods are randomly placed in the aisles and an automated system tells employees where to find them if needed.
