The suspension of export certificates in Saudi Arabia reaches 19 companies in Santa Catarina. The issue was published Wednesday (23) by the Santa Catarina Poultry Association (Acav), based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture. Among them, two industries were actively exporting, namely trade agreements providing for the sending of birds to Arabs in the coming months.
One of the companies is located in the Serra and another in the west of the state. Acav said that the Itaiopolis industry in the North, cited by the badociation on Tuesday, was not on the list of suspensions. According to Jorge de Lima, Chief Executive Officer of Acav, the amount of damage to the state remains incalculable, as companies did not transmit the expected export figures. In addition to the productive sector, the ports of Santa Catarina will also be affected as they act forcefully for the shipment of refrigerated cargoes abroad. Last year, exports of birds accounted for 28% of the movement in the ports of Itajaí and Navegantes
In the sector, the destination of production raises concerns. The industry in the West, for example, was no longer inspected by the Arabs in 2018 because it was fired, that is, the work was temporarily suspended. The company, which exports turkeys, has recently resumed operations.
The Acav intends to build a mission in the production sector in Saudi Arabia next month.
The announcement of the Saudi government on the suspension of export certificates of Brazilian industries
The announcement of the Saudi government on the suspension of licenses of Brazilian Industries Export ] was released on Monday night in a report to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture
. Estadão Content Amr Moussa, secretary general of the Arab League until 2011, and one of the Middle East diplomats who have the most influence in the region, said that Saudi Arabia's decision to discourage Brazilian meat deliverers from exporting chicken meat to the country would be a measure of retaliation for the government's idea of Jair Bolsonaro to amend the embbady from Brazil to Israel – Aviv for Jerusalem .
– The Arab world is enraged (with Brazil) – said Moussa, who is attending the Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. –
– As a sector, we do not examine the situation of the Brazilian economy, but not the sector. retaliation, but as purely technical criteria. Visits (from Arabs to certifications) took place before the president took office and before the transfer declarations from the capital to Jerusalem – said Lima, from Acav.
Across the country, out of 137 certified factories, only 25 were allowed to keep exports to Saudi Arabia – five in SC. The industries holding the certificate account for 63% of what is exported to the country's Arabs.
Brazil is today the largest exporter of halal chicken, that is to say, slaughtered in accordance with the rules of Islam in the world. In Saudi Arabia, there were only 486,000 tons last year
Official Note
In an official note, Wednesday afternoon, signed by President José Antônio Ribas Júnior and the Executive Director Jorge de Lima, Acav. stresses that the suspension of exports does not stem from a health or logistics problem of industries. "The official mission of Saudi Arabia was to Brazil in 2018 to inspect the units and proceed with the renewal of certification of halal slaughter. From this process, it appeared that some plants were not certified. "
Acav warns that in some states, the partial closure of the foreign market may result in an oversupply of poultry meat and draws attention to the urgency of opening up new markets , "within the framework of a coordinated private sector action with the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs".
The organization also recommends "an official joint mission with representatives of industry and government in Saudi Arabia to establish negotiations" to break the stalemate.
