Mason Sandoval Santos Bastos, 34, was arrested after being intercepted by surveillance cameras. He was carrying his girlfriend's body and leaving him on a sidewalk, around 5:30 am, Tuesday (22), south of the state capital.
He confessed to the crime, according to the police.
The case was registered as a femicide, when the victim was murdered because of his status as a woman
As he recorded a surveillance camera, Bastos returned home pretty much at the time. Monday (21) at 20:50, accompanied by Francisca da Silva, at 49 years old. Around 3:40 am, he left the property with his wife on his shoulders.
The accused lives in the street Jaime Guimarães Costa, who left the body.
The victim's son, a 23-year-old man, was surprised by his mother's delay and launched the military police, which found Francisca's body.
The victim, according to the police, was wearing marks.
Bastos was working on a construction site in the central region. He resigned Tuesday around 9 am, telling friends that he had killed a man and that he had to "leave".
At about 4 pm, the accused telephoned the former chief, who informed police of the call. The police concluded that the phone used by the accused belonged to Gilberto de Jesus, the suspect's cousin, aged 39
. The parent told the newspaper that he had encouraged Bastos to surrender. At around 10 pm on Tuesday, the police went to Jesus' home in Embu das Artes (São Paulo), where he arrested the stonemason.
