In an exclusive interview with Folha the parliamentarian was elected with 24,295 votes and elected for the third consecutive time by the PSOL of Rio de Janeiro.
The national president of the PSOL, Juliano Medeiros, confirmed that the position of Wyllys had to be filled by the substitute David Miranda (PSOL-RJ), currently adviser in Rio de Janeiro
Since the murder of his coreligionist Marielle Franco last March, Wyllys lives under police escort. With the intensification of death threats, common even before the death of the city councilman, the deputy decided to abandon public life.
"[ex-presidente do Uruguai] Pepe Mujica, when he learned that I was threatened with death,
According to Wyllys, they also weighed in their resolve to leave the country with recent information that they were not heroes. "And lo, I do not want to sacrifice myself." Family members of a former prime minister suspected of leading a militia having investigated the death of Marielle worked for elected Senator Flávio Bolsonaro during his tenure as deputy of Rio de Janeiro
"I am terrified to learn that the president's son was hired to his post. wife and mother of the partner, "says Wyllys." The president who has always slandered me, who has always insulted me, who has always used homophobia against me. "[19659002] The first gay parliamentary party to have placed the LGBT agenda at the National Congress., Wyllys has become one of the main targets of conservative groups, especially in social networks, it would also have been "broken up". "because of false information allegedly disseminated about him, although he has won at least five trials for defamation, slander and defamation."
"The sentence imposed on Alexander Frota, for example, I saw my reputation being destroyed by lies and I, helpless, unable to do anything. This extends to my family. People have no idea what it is to be the target of this "
MP elected by the PSL of São Paulo, Frota was sentenced in Federal Court in last December to an allowance of $ 295,000 for publishing a photo of Jean Wyllys accompanied by a false statement: "Pedophilia is a normal practice in many animal species, their prejudices are abnormal."
Wyllys is particularly unhappy with Brazil's lack of freedom. "How can I live four years of my life in an armored car and under escort?"
He also warns that he will disconnect from the networks.
"It was not an easy decision to make and it was very painful because I also abandoned the closeness of my family, my dear friends and people who like me and wanted to see me," he explains. .
As for the future, he still has no specific project. "I think I'll even say I'm going to Cuba," he says.
When did you decide to give up the mandate?
I thought about giving up public life since I was living under escort when Marielle performed. Before that, there were death threats against me and, oddly enough, nothing was against it. I never thought that death threats against me could actually happen. So, I never asked for an escort.
But when Marielle's execution was launched, I was aware of the seriousness. In addition to these death threats from these groups of badbadins, killers leased from militia, there was another possibility: the attack perpetrated by religious fanatics who believed in the systematic defamation that was made against me.
Have you been beaten?
In addition to the name, there were people pushing me, even with the security guards by my side. And the situation was getting worse because of the false campaign based on the news. I was not a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, but the main false news concerned me: the gay kit. This was a fake news item produced in 2011. It's been attributed to me.
The day of the lunar eclipse [27/07] the one where the moon became red, I could not go down because I was threatened. He could only go down with the escort, and the escort was not there. A simple thing, a phenomenon in the sky that I could not see.
That day, I had a fit of tears and I said, "I will drop everything." I can not be in my country and can not see a lunar eclipse without being insulted by people who think I am a pedophile and want to homobadualize children.
Have you considered not applying? I even thought about it because I was in the workflow. And it was not just my business, it involved the party. But when I was a candidate, I thought I would stop smoking. There, during the elections, the attack against the president took place, an attack that has still not been explained, and which again provoked violence against me in public places.
) took a precautionary measure shortly after the elections. The document is very clear: it is based on all the denunciations we have made to the federal police, in the fact that the federal police have not advanced in the investigations of the threats against me. Protection was low
The OAS granted the state a time limit to respond to the measures it was taking with respect to my protection. The answer was as absurd as possible
The state has not acknowledged the existence of homophobic violence in Brazil. Four or more LGBT people were killed during the electoral process, with Katendê Moa murdered in Bahia due to the climate of political violence in Brazil.
The state's response to the OAS was to say that I was so sure of having participated in the elections. It's a joke. I could not wait to go on vacation because I wanted to leave the country. Because I did not feel safe even with the escort that accompanied me. When I went on vacation, I lived a new life in freedom.
You have established yourself as one of the main opponents of Jair Bolsonaro in the Chamber of Deputies, to the point of spitting in his face during the dismissal vote of former President Dilma Rousseff . Did the election of Bolsonaro contribute to its decision not to badume the new mandate?
It was not his election itself. This is the level of violence that has increased after his election. To get an idea, a transvestite's heart was pinched just now. And the guy [o badbadino] put a picture of a saint instead.
In one week, three bad couples were attacked. One of them has been executed.
[ex-presidente do Uruguai] Pepe Mujica, when he learned that I was threatened with death, told me: "Damn, be careful, martyrs are not heroes." And that's it: I do not want to sacrifice myself.
The violence against me was trivialized so that Marilia Castro Neves, responsible for the liberation of Rio de Janeiro, suggested that I be executed in a group of magistrates on Facebook. She said that she was in favor of a prophylactic execution, but that I was not worth the bullet that would kill me and the tissue that would clean the lambanca.
One of the magistrates then said that I would like to be executed on my back. And she said, "No, because the ball is thin."
See violence with homophobia dictated by a woman from Rio de Janeiro. How can I imagine that I will be safe in the state that I represent and for which I have chosen?
You are the main spokesperson for the LGBT movement in Congress. At a time when the debate around these directives is tending to intensify, what do you think of the abandonment of the mandate?
For the future of this cause, I must stay alive. I do not want to be a martyr. I want to live. I think this political violence that has taken place in our country will pbad. It may be that in the future I resume it, but I do not even think about replacing it because there are so many ways to fight for this cause that do not go through the institutional space.
You were one of the first politicians to use the Internet extensively. How do you see the current atmosphere of social networks ?
The difference is that I used the Internet to give transparency to my work, broaden the channels of communication and direct democracy towards the people. I have never used the Internet to defame anyone, to slander anyone.
That's the difference for these new social networking stars. They use social networks for the disclosure of false information.
There is a whole council elected on the basis of lies, even against me. I have won lawsuits against five people who have slandered me. But these processes do not repair the damage done to my life and that of my family.
The sentence imposed, for example, on Alexander Frota does not repair the damage he caused by attributing a compliment to pedophilia. I saw my reputation destroyed by lies and I, helpless, unable to do anything. This extends to my family. People have no idea what it is like to be the target.
What are your plans? Where are you going?
I will not tell you where I am. I even think I'm going to Cuba [ironiza]. I am a teacher, I teach. I write, I have a book to finish. I will recompose my life. I will study, I want to do a PhD.
I will choose a place where I can do my doctorate, which I could not do during those years.
When I am done again, when I think the time has come, I come back, not necessarily to this place of parliamentary political representation, but in defense of the cause – I will never fail to do so
] What was the reaction of your party, the PSOL?
The party recognizes that I am really a target and supported me in my decision not to return. He recognizes that the threats against me, which I take for risky, are serious, that the vulnerability is greater because I am identified with the cause of LGBT.
Do you think that your very categorical defense of Dilma Rousseff's tenure, and in particular of former President Lula, contributed to this climate of animosity towards you?
I think so. I think everything was mixed up and that I became a public enemy for these people. Some people have been threatened by this anti-Portuguese hatred and some people have wanted to shut up. All this mixed up.
PSOL recognizes this vulnerability. Even my constituents will understand that. Thousands of people did not go to the streets to protest Marielle Franco's execution for nothing. They were outraged by the execution of an honest and dignified woman, a radiant future parliamentarian who was executed by a machine gun fire, part of the gunshots to his face.
I do not want that to end. And in order not to have this end, I will not come back and I will not take the mandate.
Do not you regret anything during these eight years as a Member of Parliament?
I do not regret anything. I think I made a nice contribution, which may not be recognized now because of false news, attacks and lies, but the rearview mirror can clearly show that I still have been on the safe side.
The Conquest of Egalitarian Civil Marriage was a feat that was very much dependent on my struggle. I am very proud of what I have done. During these eight years, I have faced all this with great dignity. But I am human and I have reached my limit.
And I am terrified to learn that the president's son hired the woman and the killer's mother in his office [ex-PM suspeito de chefiar milícia que é investigada no caso Marielle]. The president who has always slandered me, who always insulted me openly, who has always used homophobia against me.
What do you expect from the Jair Bolsonaro government and what should be the role of the opposition in the next four years?
I have no positive expectation with regard to this government. The level of violence against minorities has increased significantly since the election of this topic. Their non-republican relations have already surfaced: theirs and their children. I do not have good expectations.
Economic policy does not draw a good horizon either. The shock of neoliberalism in a country as unequal as ours will not be good. And I think the Minister of Justice [Sergio Moro] must at least provide some kind of satisfaction to the people. So, my prospects are not the best.
And I think the way out on the left is unity. But, frankly, I do not want to say more about it because I'm giving up my mandate precisely so I do not have to say more about it on this issue. I want to take care of myself and stay alive.
